Cholula (Nahuatl languages: Cholōllān) (Spanish About this sound (help·info)) was a significant city in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, dating back to at least the 2nd century BCE, with its establishment as a village tracing back several thousand years earlier. Cholula is located just west of the contemporary city of Puebla and functioned as a trading post. Its enormous pyramid is the biggest of its kind in the Americas, and it holds the record for being the largest pyramid structure by volume in the world.
